Beware the Others at Dartmouth
A report issued last year by the Committee on Institutional Diversity and Equity and dug up for a hand-wringing article on diversity in recent weeks by the New York Times gives new spin to the word “others.”
The Committee report states: “Many of us found this aspect of our work difficult because we have had contact with numerous students over the years who have felt damaged by the climate at Dartmouth. To hear again--so personally and so repeatedly--from students of color, women of all races, and gay, lesbian, or bisexual students who felt hurt, unvalued, and ultimately less important to the mission of the College than others was searing indeed.”
By elimination, one concludes that the word “others” in the hands of the Diversity Industry is now polluted diabolictalk for white heterosexual males.

When Is an Hispanic Not an Hispanic?
Democratic liberal opposition to the judicial appointment of Miguel Estrada has led to a renewed spinning of the adjective “Hispanic.”
The word “Hispanic” has been polluted for years to no longer include any American or would-be American immigrant who was born, of all places, in Spain.
But now even if you or your ancestors were born in what used to be called New Spain you are not necessarily Hispanic. Apparently, you get into the club only if the way you think is approved by the liberal left and its coconspirators in the Ethnic Minority Industry.
Estrada was born in Honduras, emigrated to the United States, became a citizen, attended Columbia College and Harvard Law School, became a brilliant, successful and much respected lawyer. He also is a conservative Republican.whose appointment to one of America’s highest courts would truly make him a poster boy for Hispanic-American achievement.
But wait: Rep. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) says “being Hispanic means much more than having a surname.” The Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund says Estrada is not a “genuine Hispanic.” The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund refers to Estrada as a “concocted” Hispanic.
Here, clearly, is the new spinspeak definition:
Hispanic = political left-wing willietalk for mostly poor, preferably non-English speaking Western Hemisphere-only immigrants or citizens from south of the Rio Grande by birth or ancestry who will keep Democratic pols in office and ethnic lobbyists in business.
The definition is reminiscent of Nazi Field Marshal Herman Goering’s explanation when criticized for employing a top Luftwaffe officer who was partly Jewish. “ I decide who is Aryan,” the Field Marshal said.

Madeleine Albright Unlimbers Her Spin Gun
Ex-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who helped the Clinton Administration eliminate Iraq, North Korea and Osama bin Laden as problems, has come up with several major contributions to Iraq policy spinspeak.
Albright on Meet the Press said the Bush Administration ‘s foreign policy on Iraq was marred by “irrational exuberance” and “unidecision.”
Spinspeak defined:
irrational exuberance -- peacenik Halloweentalk suggesting that the same kind of thinking (greedy, moronic) that built the dot-com stock market bubble of the 90’s is now hustling the United States to war.
unidecision – a peacenik metastasizing of unilateralism which no longer spins well as more than a dozen nations join the potential U.S.-led coalition against Iraq.
Albright also was pleased to offer some upbeat spinspeak. She said that Saddam Hussein was “in a box.” And she wanted everyone to know that regardless of what happens she would support “support the troops.”
Spinspeak defined:
In a box = Appeasement First bravebabble for (trust us) everyone can rest easy because the enemy (if he really is much of an enemy) can’t make a move.
support the troops = political fuzzball for no matter how bad we find the policies of our political opponents we stand behind our brave boys in uniform.
